AlumFest 2009

This is the 7th annual ALL-CLASS picnic to celebrate the RKHS community.

All alumni and their families are invited.

Last year's AlumFest was well attended...let's make 2009 even better.

Per tradition, we'll have friendly competition to see WHICH CLASS has the most attendees (so spread the word & tell all your classmates in The RK Nation).

-- Current National Honor Society students will offer tours of the building.
-- Program at 1:00 PM to honor the 2009 Distinguished Alumni award recipients.
-- Bring your own lawn chairs
-- Perfect gathering for all classes that are celebrating reunions

COME TO AlumFest 2009

This is the Seventh Annual Rufus King High School all class picnic (AlumFest 2009) sponsored by the Rufus King High School Alumni Association. This AlumFest celebrates the 75th anniversary of the opening of the school, which occurred on September 4, 1934. Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented at 2:00 p.m. under the big top. The Milwaukee Public Schools Alumni Gospel Choir will perform under the direction of Arlene Skwierawski at 3:00 p.m.

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARDS: Four alums will be recognized for their achievement at the 2:00 PM program. A photo of each honoree will be displayed in the hall of the school and their names added to the Distinguished Alumni plaque.

Two of the honorees will be present to describe their careers and the contributions that staff at King made to their success.

Douglas Love, 1984 launched his creativity at King and went on to produce and create award winning television series for Disney and HBO and write more than 25 books for publishers like Harper Collins, Harcourt, Disney Press and World Book Encyclopedia as an innovator in the cross section of entertainment and education. Love served as the VP of Television and Live Entertainment for movie studio Walden Media and Producing Artistic Director or Family Stage - San Francisco.

Donald Cosentino, 1959, has a PhD in African Languages and Literature and has authored many books and papers on African and Afro-Caribbean folklore, religions, and popular cultures. He is a professor in the Department of World Arts and Cultures at the University of California-Los Angeles.

PICNIC FOOD: You are invited to bring your own picnic lunch and grill or you can purchase hot dogs, brats, hamburgers, chips and soda at very reasonable prices from the King football team. By the way, Rufus King tee shirts, sweatshirts, caps and other memorabilia will be offered for sale by the King athletic department.

Please bring your own lawn chair(s) and come back to King for a relaxing time. Many classes will have picnic tents. Bring one for your class or gather in the “big tent.” This is the time to see friends from your class as well as other classes! Bring photos -- memories of school days and photos of the family.
Bring your copies of the King’s Crown to share.

TOUR THE SCHOOL: During the picnic, the school will be open for guided tours by members of the King chapter of the National Honor Society can be your escort. If you’d like to, you may use the elevator WITHOUT A KEY; just press the buttons.
